Rabbit hunting

Wyatt took us jack rabbit hunting yesterday.  We don't have jack rabbits in this part of the country but I didn't want to tell him that.  Minor details when you are hunting with a pipe bow and a fat stick.

I think he was a little frustrated with my inability to shoot the arrow straight. 

"MOM, you are supposed to shoot it foreward, not sideways!". 

I really did have a knack for shooting it straight sideways.  It was like magic.  After examining the photo below I can see the problem.  It is the cockeyed angle of my left hand.

 

Sabra did a bit better than me.

 

 

Wyatt is a typical boy and loves the idea of being a hunter.  Often on the way home from church he will say.  "Just drop me off at the end of the driveway so I can go hunting".

He comes home with stories of vicious creatures that come perilously close to succumbing to his skill, but curiously they always get away.  Might have something to do with that big dog that hunts with him.

Dear September

You are my very favorite month.  Now, I know I say this to all of the months but you truly are the best.  You, above all other months, have the most marvelous weather.  Perched on the threshold of autumn, your warm summer days intertwine beautifully with the crisp fall evenings.  I wish you would stay a little longer. Forever actually. We will miss you when you are gone.

 

Violet stayed at Grandma & Grandpa's last night because I am trying to wean her. I thought it may be best to send her away for a night because she is a spunky little thing.  We walked over to get her this morning.  Of course I brought the camera.  I had to capture the last bit of September.

Cobblestone

Part of the Cobblestone Collection is up.  We snapped photos of the beautiful Shayla in the nick of time. They are going back to Idaho today. Thank you girls.

One (of many) good thing about shooting at my mom and dad's home is the baked goods.  I took one bite of this Apple Coffee Cake and it was so good that I had to take down my grandma's china and snap a photo.  Everybody stops in the middle of snacking and takes pictures, right? That is normal.  If you have apples, put them in this recipe.

 

APPLE COFFEE CAKE

Ingredients:

• 1/2 cup butter-flavored shortening
• 1 cup sugar
• 2 eggs
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 cup (8 ounces) sour cream
• 1-3/4 to 2 cups chopped peeled tart apples
• TOPPING:
• 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 2 tablespoons cold butter
• 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:

In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture alternately with sour cream, mixing well after each addition. Stir in apples. Transfer to two greased 8-in. square baking dishes.
    For topping, combine brown sugar and cinnamon. Cut in butter until crumbly. Stir in nuts; sprinkle over batter. Bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool completely.  PLEASE SIP SOMETHING HOT WITH THIS.

Talk to the hand

Wyatt completely misunderstands the expression talk to the hand and we have never taken the time to correct him.  This is a typical conversation involving the hand:

Wyatt: Dad, can I come fishing on the ocean with you

Dad: No buddy, maybe when you are older

{Wyatt growls}

Wyatt: Can I ask the hand?

{Levi absentmindedly puts his hand out toward Wyatt}

Wyatt: Hand, can I go fishing with daddy? 

Hand nods "no"

Wyatt is very serious about this.  The hand usually has the same answer as the owner so I am not sure why he bothers, but it is funny.  Perhaps I am easily entertained.

 

We are moving into the office tomorrow (beginning the process anyway)! I know, I can't believe it either.  So..all hands on deck.  That means you mom, I hope you are planning to come over:) I am so excited, of course I will take photos and share with you tomorrow.

Anna's baby girl

I can't believe it is only 6 weeks before we meet this baby girl face to face.  Anna is visiting from Spokane so I raided my closets and hauled my mom's furniture outside(again) to photograph the belly.

 

 

 

We thought it would be neat to get a photo of Anna with her 4 girls.  Little Dewey walks up with his sling shot & his face covered in mud a says "where should I sit mom?".  Of course we had to include him.
